The housefly is the most common fly we deal with, and is found all around the world. House flies are commonly found in buildings and around the house. Many people find houseflies to be a nuisance, but they have the potential to be very dangerous because they can spread disease. House flies have a lifespan around 28 days, but can bread fairly quickly and in large numbers.
Lesser House fly
Lesser house flies are smaller than the normal housefly. You will tend to see lesser house flies outside under need a patio, flying around in a jerky motion. Unlike the housefly, the lesser house fly tends to land less on objects and is less than a bother to humans.
Another common fly in Oregon is the fruit fly(drosophila melanogaster). Adult fruit flies are only 3 to 4 mm in length. They are brown or tanish in color. Fruit flies normally are a sign of decaying or rotting food in your house. They will normally breed around the sink area, in the drain, and the garbage disposal. The females lay around 500 eggs and it doesn't take long for those eggs to hatch. Their diet consists of fruit and vegetables and they also like beer, wine, and liquor.
Blow flies are a little larger than a house fly and have a metallic colors on their body. If you see blow flies, it normally means there is something dead nearby. These dead animals plays a vital role in the survival of their larva.
